The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) will construct a new power substation at Adaklu in the Volta Region. This project aims to significantly improve electricity supply reliability in the Ho Municipality. This strategic move will decouple the Ho Municipality from the existing Asiekpe grid. Volta Regional Minister James Gunu announced this development during a meeting of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council. The current power infrastructure faces significant pressure from rapid urbanisation and a growing number of industries in the region. This increased demand has frequently led to power rationing, negatively impacting commercial and industrial activities.
The construction of the Adaklu substation fits into Ghana's broader economic strategy to bolster critical infrastructure. The new substation's completion will likely reduce operational costs for businesses currently relying on expensive alternative power sources.
