Xpress Gas Limited, a Ghanaian downstream petroleum company, has partnered with Polygon (Beijing) Energy Technology Corporation. This collaboration aims to significantly boost domestic Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) use through Ghana’s Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM).

The agreement supports the National Petroleum Authority's (NPA) goal of increasing LPG access to 50% by 2030. Under the CRM policy, consumers exchange empty cylinders for filled ones, enhancing safety and accessibility. This partnership will leverage Polygon's expertise in smart technology to improve the CRM's reach and efficiency.

This initiative is crucial for Ghana's energy sector and aligns with broader government efforts to promote cleaner energy. The CRM policy, launched by the NPA in 2023, seeks to transform LPG distribution. It moves away from traditional refilling stations towards a more structured and safer exchange system. This shift is expected to reduce accidents and make LPG more readily available to households and businesses nationwide. The partnership also reflects a growing trend of technology adoption in Ghana's energy infrastructure.

Festus William Amoyaw, General Manager of Xpress Gas, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership. He stated, “We have been building the relationship between Xpress Gas and Polygon for the past four years.” Mr. Amoyaw added that Polygon’s strength in research and development is a vital asset. Du YongFang, General Manager of Polygon, noted this is their first project in Africa. He highlighted the shared goal of using technology to improve consumer life and the industry.

This strategic alliance will likely accelerate the CRM's implementation and expansion across Ghana. Decision-makers and industry stakeholders will closely monitor its impact on LPG penetration rates. The integration of Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems is expected to streamline logistics. This could set a new standard for energy distribution efficiency and safety in the region. The success of this model could also attract further foreign investment into Ghana's energy sector.

Xpress Gas, a licensed LPG marketing company, has piloted CRM since 2017. It has scaled operations in Accra, Tema, Kasoa, Assin Foso, and Kumasi. Polygon, founded in 2010, provides high-tech solutions for the LPG industry. These include intelligent valves, IoT management systems, and SaaS platforms. The partnership will enable Xpress Gas to track cylinders and build AI systems for distribution. This will help serve customers proactively and support government penetration goals. The collaboration marks a significant step towards modernizing Ghana's LPG supply chain. It promises improved service delivery and enhanced safety for millions of Ghanaians.
