Ghana's Accra-Kumasi Expressway project is nearing completion, with less than 20 kilometres of clearing work remaining before it reaches Kumasi. Roads Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza confirmed this significant progress, stating the expressway is close to linking with the Kumasi Orbiter, also known as the Kumasi Ring Road.

This major infrastructure development aims to significantly improve connectivity between Accra and Kumasi, Ghana's two largest cities. The project is designed to ease travel times and stimulate economic activity along this crucial corridor. Enhanced road networks are vital for the efficient movement of goods and people, directly impacting trade and regional development.

The near completion of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway fits into Ghana's broader economic strategy of investing in critical infrastructure to support growth. Previous government data indicates substantial allocations towards road projects, with GHS 23.1 billion disbursed to clear arrears for road contractors. This commitment underscores the government's focus on improving national transportation arteries to facilitate commerce and reduce logistical costs across the country.

Minister Agbodza stated on Friday, "We have less than 20 kilometres. I’m sure we have maybe around 10, 15 kilometres to hit Kumasi itself." He also acknowledged the support of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his guidance on road infrastructure within the Kumasi area. This collaboration highlights the importance of local leadership in driving national development projects.

The completion of the expressway is expected to have immediate implications for various sectors, including logistics, agriculture, and tourism. Businesses will benefit from faster and more reliable transportation routes, potentially lowering operational costs and increasing market access. Decision-makers will closely monitor the economic impact, particularly on regional trade and investment, as the new artery becomes fully operational. This project represents a tangible step towards modernizing Ghana's transport infrastructure and fostering sustained economic expansion.
