The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has arrested six commercial transport operators for allegedly charging passengers fares above approved rates. This enforcement action occurred on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, targeting three drivers and three bus conductors in Accra's Central Business District (CBD).
The operation took place between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., following numerous reports of commercial transport operators increasing fares without official approval. The arrested individuals were reportedly charging higher rates for journeys to destinations including Awoshie, Kasoa, and Madina. This practice directly impacts daily commuters, increasing their cost of living and potentially reducing their disposable income.
