Emirates flight EK789 has commenced operations, touching down in Accra for the first time. This new service increases Emirates' weekly flights between Dubai and Accra to 11, enhancing Ghana's international air travel capacity.
This expansion comes in response to Ghana's growing demand for travel and improved global connectivity. The additional flights offer customers more choice and greater convenience for business, leisure, and family visits. The new service, operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, complements Emirates' existing daily flights.
The increase in flight frequency aligns with efforts to position Ghana as a key West African aviation hub. Enhanced air links facilitate trade, tourism, and foreign investment, crucial for economic growth. Data shows a steady rise in air passenger traffic at Accra International Airport over the past few years, indicating robust demand for international travel to and from Ghana.
Salem Almana, Emirates' Country Manager for Ghana, stated, "The arrival of this additional service reaffirms our long-term commitment to Ghana." He highlighted Ghana's important role in Emirates' African network for over two decades. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited, called the new service "a strong endorsement of Ghana's growing aviation sector." She added that it supports the movement of people, goods, and investment.
This increased connectivity is expected to further boost Ghana's tourism sector by making the country more accessible to international visitors. It will also support local businesses and strengthen trade links with key global markets. Decision-makers and market participants will watch how this growth impacts passenger numbers and cargo volumes at Accra International Airport.
The outbound flight from Accra is scheduled for convenient onward travel to major business and tourist hubs in Asia, Australia, the US, and Saudi Arabia, via Dubai. The additional flights use Emirates' Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. These planes feature 8 private suites in First Class, 42 lie-flat seats in Business Class, and 304 spacious seats in Economy Class. Passengers can enjoy regionally inspired cuisine and the airline's 'ice' inflight entertainment system. This system offers over 6,500 channels, including Ghanaian content.
