The Ghana Private Sector Competitiveness Programme Phase II (GPSCP II) will support the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA). The goal is to increase production. It also aims to attract more investment in Ghana's tree crop sector. This partnership will improve economic contributions. The initiative was announced during a staff training event on May 22, 2026.

This collaboration is designed to help the tree crop sector reach its full potential. It seeks to create lasting growth opportunities. These opportunities will span the entire value chain. Strengthening staff skills is crucial for this. Better enforcement of rules will follow. This ensures policies are followed effectively. Juliana Karikari, Team Lead for GPSCP II, spoke at the training.

Ghana's economy relies on key agricultural exports. Tree crops like cocoa, shea, and cashew are vital. They provide jobs and foreign exchange. Recent years have seen efforts to diversify beyond cocoa. The Tree Crops Development Authority was established to oversee this. It aims to bring structure to these important sectors. The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs is a key partner. They focus on sustainable private sector growth in Ghana.

“SECO is committed to ensuring that TCDA is in full operation,” said Juliana Karikari. “We will ensure that the staff understand what their duties are by diving into the regulation and L.I. that mandates their activities.” The training covers improving staff ability to regulate activities. It also ensures industry players follow the rules. Andy Osei Okrah, CEO of TCDA, stated the authority is strengthening enforcement. He stressed the importance of staff training for monitoring. This helps the authority implement its national mandate.

This partnership is expected to lead to stronger governance. Enhanced regulatory frameworks can attract larger investments. Increased production will boost farmer incomes. It also means more export earnings for Ghana. Stakeholders will be watching TCDA's operational improvements. The effectiveness of enforcement will be a key indicator. This could influence future funding for the sector.
