Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) has launched a health and financial literacy program for women in Ghana’s Adaklu District. The initiative provided free medical screenings and educated women on managing their finances. District Chief Executive Jerry Yao Ameko commended CBG for the program. He announced this during an event in Adaklu on Saturday, May 9th.
Mr. Ameko described the outreach as important. It helps women detect health problems early. Many women may not know about hidden illnesses. The program offered checks for blood pressure, sugar levels, and cholesterol. This information helps prevent serious health issues and deaths. The DCE also highlighted the program’s financial literacy component. This aims to empower women economically. He linked it to the government’s goal of supporting women. Plans for a Women’s Development Bank were mentioned.
This initiative fits into broader economic development efforts in Ghana. The Adaklu District is experiencing economic growth. However, it faces significant infrastructure gaps. A key issue is the lack of banking services. Adaklu currently has no bank branches. The DCE invited CBG to establish a presence there. He noted plans for a 24-hour economy market. This market will include a banking facility. CBG is encouraged to be the first institution there. Strengthening financial access is vital for local development.
The DCE expressed gratitude towards CBG. He also thanked the Member of Parliament. The MP, Kwame Governs Agbodza, facilitated the collaboration. He is also the Minister for Roads and Highways. Mr. Ameko noted the importance of preventive healthcare. He contrasted it with the district’s current health facility limitations. Adaklu has 18 health centres. It lacks a district hospital or polyclinic. Residents often travel long distances for advanced care. This journey can be dangerous in emergencies.
The program’s success may lead to further investment. CBG’s presence could spur future economic activities. Improved health and financial literacy can boost productivity. This aligns with national goals for economic progress. The collaboration shows potential for public-private partnerships. These can address local development needs. The outreach demonstrates CBG’s commitment to community development beyond banking services.
