Ecobank Ghana and Mantrac Ghana have signed a strategic partnership to provide flexible equipment financing solutions. This collaboration will enable businesses in mining, construction, agriculture, and manufacturing to acquire Caterpillar equipment. The initiative aims to expand their operations and strengthen their capacity to execute major contracts.

This partnership is expected to significantly improve access to heavy machinery for Ghanaian-owned businesses. It will also help these companies preserve their working capital, which is crucial for growth. The move directly addresses a key challenge for local firms: the high cost of acquiring essential equipment.

The agreement aligns with Ghana's broader economic strategy to promote local content and industrialisation. By empowering Ghanaian businesses to compete for larger projects, the partnership supports job creation and keeps contract processes within the country. This reduces reliance on foreign-owned companies for major infrastructure and development projects, fostering indigenous participation in the economy.

Henry Ampong, Regional Head of Corporate and Investment Banking at Ecobank Ghana, stated that the partnership combines Ecobank's financial strength with Mantrac's expertise. He emphasised that the primary driver is to leverage these strengths to support Ghanaian business owners in executing contracts. Mr. Ampong noted that many businesses struggle with equipment costs, limiting their ability to compete for large projects.

He further explained that the program will identify qualified Ghanaian-owned companies with secured contracts. It will then provide tailored financing solutions to help them acquire the necessary equipment. This approach ensures that local content is backed by tangible capacity, not just rhetoric. It also ensures that the economic benefits of these projects remain within Ghana, supporting local employment and development.

Pierre L. Hill, Managing Director of Mantrac Ghana, described the collaboration as an important step towards driving investment and economic growth. He highlighted that the partnership is meaningful for Mantrac, as its objective is to grow Ghana's economy and enhance its footprint within the country. Mr. Hill also mentioned Ecobank's long-standing relationship with Mantrac, making it the ideal financial partner for this program.

The partnership is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of local businesses across various sectors. It will increase indigenous participation in significant infrastructure projects. This initiative directly supports Ghana's broader industrialisation agenda, aiming to build a more robust and self-reliant economy. The focus on providing access to capital for equipment acquisition is a critical component of this national development strategy.

By facilitating the acquisition of essential machinery, the collaboration will enable local companies to undertake more complex and larger-scale projects. This will not only boost their individual growth but also contribute to the overall economic development of Ghana. The partnership represents a practical step towards achieving greater economic self-sufficiency and empowering local entrepreneurs.
