The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has confirmed that Ghanaian workers' contributions are invested in assets that will directly benefit them. Mr. Lord Koramoa, Public Affairs Manager of SSNIT, stated that the primary objective of these investments is to ensure contributors receive adequate benefits.
SSNIT has made several housing facilities available for sale. These properties allow contributors to directly patronize developments funded by their contributions. SSNIT has engaged the Ghana Employers Association and various labour unions to facilitate these worker acquisitions.
This initiative forms part of SSNIT's broader strategy to deliver tangible returns on social security contributions. The Trust often invests in various sectors, including real estate. Providing housing units directly to contributors addresses a key social need and translates financial investments into physical assets for workers. Such investments are critical for the long-term sustainability and public trust in pension schemes across Ghana.
Mr. Koramoa explained these actions during a media tour of SSNIT’s premium residential properties. He highlighted Adinkra Heights in Cantonments, Eagles Place in Sakumono, Meridian Gardens in Klagon, and Royal Tivoli Apartments as examples. These developments include two, three, and four-bedroom apartments and townhouses.
The sale of these properties, which experienced construction delays now resolved, has received approval from SSNIT’s management and board. SSNIT has introduced a structured payment plan. This plan aims to make property acquisition more accessible for interested contributors and workers. This financial flexibility is designed to encourage wider participation in the acquisition process.
This move is expected to enhance confidence in SSNIT's investment strategies. It demonstrates a commitment to transparency and direct beneficiary engagement. Decision-makers and financial markets will watch closely to see the uptake of these housing units. The success of this direct benefit model could influence future investment decisions by SSNIT.
SSNIT continues to assure contributors of prudent investment management. The Trust aims for significant returns from these projects. Such returns are crucial for maintaining the long-term solvency of the social security scheme. These investments ultimately support the pensions and other benefits workers will receive.
