AngloGold Ashanti has donated 1,000 classroom furniture sets to three senior high schools in the Ashanti Region. This move directly addresses a significant infrastructure gap. The donation aims to improve learning conditions for students. It is part of the company's GHS 10-year Socio-Economic Development Plan, which focuses on community investment.

The beneficiary schools are Akrofuom Senior High School, Dompaase Senior High School, and Tweapease Senior High School. Akrofuom SHS received 500 desk sets. Dompaase SHS received 300 desk sets. Tweapease SHS got 200 desk sets. This intervention was identified through a community needs assessment. Inadequate desks and chairs were negatively impacting teaching and learning in these schools.

This donation fits within a broader trend of corporate social responsibility in Ghana. Many companies are investing in education to support human capital development. Such initiatives are crucial for regions heavily reliant on resource extraction, like the Ashanti Region. AngloGold Ashanti's Obuasi Mine is a long-standing economic force. Their commitment to community investment helps maintain their social licence to operate. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, on quality education, guides these efforts.

Mavis Nana Yaa Kyei, speaking for the Community Relations Manager, stated the company's commitment. "This intervention reflects our continued commitment to supporting education," she said. She added the goal is to create opportunities for young people to thrive academically. The company aims to provide a safe and conducive learning environment. This aligns with the broader goal of ensuring access to decent learning spaces.

The furniture donation is expected to alleviate classroom overcrowding. It will also improve student comfort and concentration. Teachers will benefit from better conditions for instruction. AngloGold Ashanti has other educational infrastructure projects planned. These are part of a larger effort to boost learning outcomes. Long-term human capital development in Obuasi is a key objective. This supports the economic well-being of surrounding communities.

The Socio-Economic Development Plan spans ten years. It outlines investments in education, health, livelihoods, and infrastructure. These investments are targeted at communities near the Obuasi Mine. School administrators have long raised concerns about furniture shortages. This donation directly addresses those concerns. It promotes equity in educational opportunities.
