AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has committed GHS 660,000 to enhance waste management in the Obuasi Municipality and Obuasi East District. The mining company donated 400 waste bins and two waste collection tricycles to local authorities on August 13.
This significant contribution aims to strengthen waste collection and transportation systems. It will also promote responsible waste disposal practices among residents. The intervention directly addresses challenges of indiscriminate dumping in the two local government areas.
The donation forms part of AngloGold Ashanti's broader commitment to community development. It aligns with their 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP), launched in 2019. Sanitation, water, and strategic partnerships are key pillars of this long-term plan. This initiative reflects a growing trend of corporate entities investing in social infrastructure in their operating regions.
Mr. Richard Ansong, Communications Superintendent of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, highlighted the importance of sanitation. He stated it remains a critical component of the company's community development agenda. He also stressed the need for sustained collaboration between the mining company, local Assemblies, and residents.

Madam Faustilove Appiah Kanin, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, received the items. She expressed appreciation for AngloGold Ashanti's support.
