Brain Hill International School began as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) class assignment. Chief Executive Officer Mary Anane Awuku developed the concept for her school during her MBA studies. An assignment in 'Innovative Management' required a novel business idea. Ms. Awuku was working in banking and raising children at the time. She saw a clear need for childcare that matched the hours of working parents. Most schools closed their doors by 5:00 pm. This was a problem for parents working until that hour or later. Brain Hill International School was designed to solve this childcare dilemma. It offers extended care hours, operating from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm. This allows parents to manage their work schedules effectively. The assignment proposal was written purely for academic purposes in 2011. Later, Ms. Awuku, having gained entrepreneurial experience, decided to make it a reality. She had started a cleaning company previously. Seeking to diversify, she revisited her MBA proposal. The idea for an educational institution with flexible hours felt promising. The school first operated from a small, three-bedroom house. Her two children were its first students. Ms. Awuku was pregnant with her third child when she started. She was determined to see her idea through, overcoming initial doubts from parents. The extended hours model was new and raised questions. Some parents worried about their children's well-being. Ms. Awuku addressed these concerns through consistent service and referrals. Flyers were distributed at workplaces to inform potential clients. The school provided multiple meals throughout the day. This included breakfast, lunch, and supper, plus two snacks. Word of mouth and positive experiences led to growth. Parents began referring other families to the school. What started as a classroom project is now an expanding Cambridge institution. Brain Hill International School is recognized for its innovative approach to education. It effectively supports working families in Ghana.
