Ghana National Fire Service is investigating a fire that gutted parts of Monte Carlo, a popular pub in Tema Community 10. Five fire appliances were deployed to battle the blaze on Friday morning. The fire caused extensive damage to the pub and a nearby restaurant. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.

The fire outbreak was reported shortly after 7:00 am on Friday. Firefighters from the Motorway Fire Station were the first to arrive. They immediately saw the intensity of the flames. Reinforcements were requested quickly. Two more appliances came from the Industrial Area and Tema Regional Headquarters. Ashaiman and New Town Fire Stations also sent units. This brought the total to five fire engines at the scene.

Rapid fire spread made containing the blaze difficult. Firefighters focused on preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings. They succeeded in preventing the fire from engulfing adjacent structures. The fire was brought under control around 7:40 am. It was fully extinguished by 9:34 am. Monte Carlo suffered significant damage. A restaurant behind the pub was also partially damaged.

Officials managed to salvage two office spaces within the facility. A safe was also retrieved from the scene. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has secured the area. They will begin their investigation into the cause of the fire. Authorities warned the public against tampering with evidence. Ebenezer Yenzu, Tema Regional Public Relations Officer for GNFS, confirmed these details.

This incident highlights the critical role of the fire service in Ghana. While there is no direct financial figure released for the damage yet, such establishments are significant for local economies and employment in Tema. This fire will lead to temporary job losses. It also impacts local tourism and leisure sectors. The GNFS’s swift action prevented a larger disaster.

The GNFS investigation will aim to determine the cause of the fire. Causes can range from electrical faults to accidental causes. Findings will inform safety regulations for such public spaces. This event also calls for robust fire safety measures in commercial areas across Ghana. Preparedness is key to minimizing damage and loss. The public awaits official findings on the incident.

The focus now shifts to rebuilding for the affected businesses. Insurance claims will likely be substantial. The investigation's outcome could lead to new safety standards. This reinforces the need for continuous investment in fire fighting resources. Tema, as a major industrial and port city, requires strong emergency services.
