Softcare Sanitary Pad has announced its support for the May 9 Foundation. This organization works to commemorate the 25th anniversary of a tragic event. The May 9, 2001 Accra Sports Stadium disaster claimed over 126 lives. Many others suffered injuries during that football match.

The May 9 Foundation was created after the football tragedy. It aims to help families affected by the disaster. The foundation also supports vulnerable groups. This includes children with hole-in-heart conditions. They also assist victims of gas explosions and floods. Efforts extend to the physically challenged and needy individuals. These activities are crucial for community well-being.

This support fits into a larger picture of corporate social responsibility in Ghana. Companies often contribute to charitable causes. Such initiatives help build goodwill and address societal needs. The disaster itself highlighted serious issues in sports management. It serves as a somber reminder of safety protocols. The May 9 Foundation's work continues years later. This shows the long-lasting impact of such events on families.

Herbert Mensah, former Asante Kotoko chairman, spoke on the matter. He stated that many affected families still face difficulties. He noted dissatisfaction with the support received. He also mentioned concerns about the investigation's outcome. The May 9 Foundation has partnered with the Shen Yang and Shen Yuet Children’s Heart Foundation. This partnership supports surgeries for children with hole-in-heart conditions. Mr. Mensah confirmed 117 children have undergone these surgeries at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. These complex surgeries cost between $6,000 and $14,000 each. Funding comes from the Shen Yang and Shen Yuet Children’s Heart Foundation. This program is set to continue for another decade. It plans to fund 20 to 30 surgeries annually.

Softcare's contribution is part of a broader effort. Other organizations like Interplast, Sunda International, GBfoods, and Melcom Group also contribute. These efforts underscore the importance of collective action. They highlight how companies can positively impact lives. The continued support shows a commitment to the victims' families. It also signals a dedication to addressing ongoing health issues. This partnership is a testament to corporate citizenship in Ghana. It helps ensure the foundation's work can continue.
