Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson leads former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by 18 percentage points in a simulated 2028 presidential contest. This is according to a new poll from Global Info Analytics released on Tuesday. The survey, conducted in March 2026, shows Dr. Forson securing 55% of support. Dr. Bawumia garnered 37% in the multi-candidate race. This 18-point gap is wider than the margin seen in the 2024 general election. It also exceeds the projected performance of another NDC contender, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

The poll suggests that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) maintains strong backing from its core supporters. Lead pollster Mussa Dankwah highlighted emerging voter trends. These trends, particularly among voters who did not participate in the 2024 elections, could present greater challenges for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). "The data reflects the NDC’s dominance with its core support, while absentee voter patterns present additional risks for the NPP beyond the headline numbers," Mr. Dankwah stated. The survey forms part of Global Info Analytics’ ongoing national tracking polls.

In a separate simulated one-on-one contest, Mr. Asiedu Nketia also leads Dr. Bawumia. Mr. Asiedu Nketia achieved 51% support compared to Dr. Bawumia’s 39%. This represents a 12-point advantage for Mr. Asiedu Nketia. While this lead is significant, it is smaller than Dr. Forson’s margin in his matchup. The findings indicate that both leading NDC figures are comfortably ahead of the NPP’s expected presidential candidate at this stage of the electoral cycle. For comparison, in the December 2024 election, then-President John Mahama defeated Dr. Bawumia by 15 percentage points, securing 56% of the vote. The current projections suggest Dr. Forson would surpass that margin if an election were held today. Mr. Asiedu Nketia's projected performance would be close to, but slightly under, that margin.

Other candidates from the 2024 election featured in the poll simulation with smaller numbers. Alan Kyerematen, who ran as an independent, secured 3% in the simulated race against Dr. Forson. He received 4% in the matchup involving Mr. Asiedu Nketia. Businessman Nana Kwame Bediako trailed with 2% and 3% in the respective scenarios. The NDC has not yet officially opened nominations for its 2028 presidential primaries. However, both Dr. Forson and Mr. Asiedu Nketia have consistently been identified as top contenders. Dr. Bawumia, who led the NPP in the 2024 general election, is widely expected to be the party’s flagbearer again in 2028. The poll provides an early glimpse into potential voter sentiment for future elections.
