Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has been named the Overall Best Technical University Innovator. This award was presented at the 4th Applied Research Conference of Technical Universities of Ghana (ARCTUG 2026). The recognition highlights TTU's significant contributions to research and applied knowledge. This further cements its reputation in these vital areas. The university was the host institution for the conference. It demonstrated a strong performance across multiple innovation and research categories. Cape Coast Technical University secured the second position. Ho Technical University followed in third place. This achievement builds upon TTU's previous successes. It was recently ranked the top technical university in Ghana by the AD Scientific Index. This ranking has been consistent for three consecutive years. It reflects TTU's high research productivity and scientific impact. TTU also received individual awards. Dr Aba Atta Eyison won in Agriculture, Applied Sciences, and Sustainable Innovation. Francis Bukari and Fuseini Harawi were recognised for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Transformation, and Inclusive Education in TVET. Prof. Bruce Amartey received an award for Creative Arts, Tourism, and Cultural Industries for Sustainability. The ARCTUG 2026 Dinner and Awards Night took place on Friday, May 29, 2026. It was held at the Essipong Grove Resort in Takoradi. The event gathered leaders from Ghana’s ten technical universities. This included vice-chancellors, researchers, and industry experts. Policymakers and students also attended. The aim was to celebrate achievements in applied research and innovation. Ing. Justice Amoh, Chief Executive Officer of Justmoh Construction Company, spoke at the event. He described it as a celebration of excellence. He emphasised collaboration and innovation within the technical university sector. Ing. Amoh noted that the awards honor the hard work of researchers and innovators. Their contributions support national development. He also pointed out a gap between classroom learning and industry practice. He stressed the need for stronger academia-industry links. This ensures graduates gain necessary workplace skills. Ing. Amoh observed that graduates often perform well in interviews. However, they struggle with real-world tasks. He urged technical universities to produce skilled graduates. These skills are essential for industry and national industrialisation. Ing. Prof. Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, Chairman of the Vice-Chancellors of Technical Universities-Ghana (VCTU-G), also addressed the attendees. He stated that ARCTUG is a key platform. It promotes applied research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology transfer. He added that technical universities must solve national problems. This should be done through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Ing. Prof. Adinkrah-Appiah praised all participating institutions. He commended TTU and the Local Organising Committee for hosting ARCTUG 2026. Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, Vice Chancellor of TTU, thanked all participants. He also thanked sponsors and industry partners. He stated that TTU's victory reflects years of investment. This includes research, innovation, industry collaboration, and staff development. He affirmed TTU's dedication to practical, solution-oriented research. Prof. Maame Efua Nkrumah, Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee, expressed gratitude. She thanked participants and stakeholders for their support. ARCTUG 2026 focused on strengthening applied research and innovation for sustainable development. It served as a venue for showcasing solutions to development challenges. TTU's overall innovation award signifies its successful hosting of the event. It also recognises its significant impact.
