Professor Kofi Blay, father of the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC), Judith Adjoba Blay, has died at the age of 86. He passed away after a short illness. A requiem mass was held for the respected academic.

The service took place at the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Cathedral. Professor Blay’s mortal remains were later interred at the Esiama Catholic Cemetery. His family remembered him as a devoted servant of God. They also described him as an accomplished academic who mentored many young people. He dedicated his life to helping others become responsible citizens.

Professor Blay's passing occurs at a time of significant activity in Ghana's energy sector. The Ghana National Gas Company plays a crucial role in the country's power generation by supplying natural gas. The company’s performance directly impacts the stability of electricity supply and the cost of power for Ghanaians. GNGC’s operations are therefore vital for the broader economic landscape. The company has previously reported significant achievements in its operations, including saving taxpayers substantial amounts.

The Very Reverend Father Francis Kofi Lemaire, Vicar-General of the Sekondi-Takoradi Diocese, delivered the homily. He advised Christians to live exemplary lives. He quoted scripture, saying, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Father Lemaire highlighted Professor Blay’s fulfilled life. He noted Professor Blay took full responsibility for his family. He successfully raised children contributing to national development. Ms. Adjoba Blay, CEO of GNGC, and Madam Yaaba Blay, a lecturer, were mentioned as examples. Multiple high-profile personalities attended the requiem mass. This included Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources. John Jinapor, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, was also present. George Sipa Yankey, former CEO of Ghana Gas Company, paid his respects. Freddie Blay, a former MP, was also in attendance. Dignitaries from the energy and petroleum sectors joined the service.

The passing of Professor Blay and the attendance of key figures from the energy sector may prompt reflection on leadership and legacy. It underscores the importance of individuals who contribute to both academia and public service. The GNGC CEO's family connections to distinguished individuals highlight the influence of mentorship and strong family values. Citizens will likely continue to watch the Ghana National Gas Company for its contributions to Ghana's energy security and economic growth.
