A new GH₵11 million dining hall complex at Birifoh Senior High School is nearing completion. The contractor, Solodom Construction Limited, anticipates finishing the project well ahead of its 12-month deadline. This significant educational infrastructure development will provide a 2,500-seat dining capacity and a modern kitchen facility for the school.

The project, which officially broke ground just one month ago, has already reached an estimated 20% completion. This rapid progress is particularly noteworthy given the challenging terrain encountered during the initial excavation phase. Solid rock presented a significant obstacle, requiring the use of specialized machinery and even controlled blasting to prepare the foundation. This initial setback was overcome quickly by the contracting firm to maintain project momentum.

The construction of the dining hall is a key initiative to improve facilities at Birifoh SHS. This investment aims to upgrade the school to a standard senior high school status. The project is partly funded through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), a government agency that supports educational infrastructure. However, GETFund payments are typically made after contractors achieve certifiable levels of work. This means the contractor, Solomon Adombiiri Ameabuno, is currently financing early stages of the project from his own resources.

Solomon Adombiiri Ameabuno stated that his company is committed to delivering the project on time and to a high standard. He highlighted the successful excavation and foundation work, with blockwork set to begin imminently. Mr. Ameabuno also mentioned his company’s proactive approach to local engagement. He has increased the daily wage for local laborers to GHS 100, significantly above the standard GHS 70, fostering goodwill and efficiency. The local chief has also provided support, including water tanks for the construction site. Mr. Ameabuno has a proven track record in constructing similar facilities for other educational institutions.

The accelerated progress suggests a strong commitment from the contractor and local stakeholders. The project's early completion could mean students benefit from improved facilities sooner than anticipated. This development is a positive sign for educational infrastructure investment in the region. Future focus will be on the roofing and final finishing stages of the hall. The timely completion will also impact GETFund’s disbursement schedules.
