Multiple individuals sustained injuries in a road traffic accident in Ejisu, Ashanti Region, on August 11, 2026. The collision involved a Toyota Hiace commercial vehicle, commonly known as a 'trotro', and a Kia Sorento SUV. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in Ghana, particularly in busy urban areas. The accident occurred directly in front of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service in Ejisu. It also happened a short distance from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Office. Eyewitnesses reported that the crash took place during peak traffic hours, drawing immediate attention from motorists, traders, and local residents. Road traffic accidents remain a significant public health and economic challenge in Ghana. The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) frequently reports high numbers of fatalities and injuries. Such incidents place a considerable burden on the healthcare system and lead to productivity losses. This particular crash adds to the growing statistics of road incidents across the country. Personnel from the MTTD swiftly responded to the scene to manage traffic flow and provide assistance to the victims. The family traveling in the Kia Sorento SUV was immediately transported to the Ejisu Government Hospital for urgent medical attention. Occupants of the Toyota Hiace commercial van were also taken to the same medical facility, where doctors are currently attending to their injuries. The full extent of the injuries sustained by the victims has not yet been officially disclosed by hospital authorities. However, both hospital staff and emergency responders are working diligently to ensure that all affected individuals receive comprehensive and necessary medical treatment. This commitment underscores the immediate response protocols in place for such emergencies. Officers from the MTTD have initiated a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. This inquiry aims to determine the exact cause of the collision and identify any contributing factors. The findings of this investigation will be crucial for understanding how to prevent similar incidents in the future and improve road safety measures in Ejisu and beyond. This incident underscores the need for continuous public awareness campaigns on road safety. It also highlights the importance of strict enforcement of traffic regulations. The government and relevant agencies must continue to invest in infrastructure improvements and driver education programs. These measures are essential to reduce the frequency and severity of road accidents across Ghana. The outcome of the MTTD's investigation will be closely watched by the public and road safety advocates.
