Young Ghanaian author Gido Napogbong has channeled GHS 6,000 from his book sales to fund a community water project in the Bono East Region. This initiative will provide safe drinking water to approximately 2,000 residents in Nyaabea, Kintampo Municipality.

Gido Napogbong, also a social impact advocate, is leading the Nyaabea Water Project. This project aims to construct a mechanized borehole system. The goal is to address severe water insecurity that forces residents, especially women and children, to rely on contaminated water sources.

Access to clean water remains a significant development challenge across Ghana. Many rural communities lack basic infrastructure, impacting public health and economic productivity. This project highlights a grassroots effort to bridge a critical gap in essential services often provided by the state or large non-governmental organisations.

Gido Napogbong recounted his experience. He stated, “My drive is to end the struggle for unsafe and inaccessible water in Nyaabea by providing a reliable, clean water source that protects health through a borehole.” This sentiment underscores the personal motivation behind the project.

The Nyaabea Water Project will directly benefit about 2,000 residents. This includes approximately 800 women, who typically spend long hours collecting water, and 500 children vulnerable to waterborne diseases. The project’s success will significantly improve health outcomes and restore dignity within the community.

Gido Napogbong uses his book, “The Process,” as the primary funding mechanism. He confirmed that all proceeds from its sales are invested directly into the project. This covers expenses such as borehole drilling, installation of pumping systems, and water storage and distribution infrastructure.

The GHS 6,000 already generated reflects early community support for this vital initiative. The book also serves as an advocacy tool, raising national awareness about water challenges in underserved regions. This dual approach maximizes both financial and social impact.

Gido Napogbong is actively seeking additional financial, logistical, and technical support. He appealed to individuals, organisations, and partners to contribute through donations, book purchases, or sponsorships. Finishing the project requires collective effort.

This youth-led intervention demonstrates an innovative approach to local development challenges. It shows how targeted private initiatives can complement broader government efforts in improving living standards. Such projects can inspire other communities to address their own pressing needs.

The successful completion of the Nyaabea Water Project would serve as a model for sustainable community development. It will demonstrate the power of individual initiative in tackling national issues. Continued support and partnerships will be crucial for scaling such impactful work.
