AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has started building a new 1,500-seater multipurpose assembly hall and a secured main gatehouse. These facilities are for New Edubiase Senior High School. The project is part of the Mine’s 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan. This plan focuses on sustainable community development.
The company is investing in education and essential social structures. These are located within its host communities. Local contractor AA Engineering and Construction will complete the work. They expect to finish within 17 months. The new hall will create a modern space for learning and school activities. It will improve the school’s environment for students and staff. The facility will also help the school host events.
This investment fits into Ghana’s broader economic narrative. Mining companies often contribute to local communities. This helps build goodwill and support development. Such projects can improve worker productivity and local economies. Enhanced education infrastructure can lead to better skilled graduates. This benefits the national workforce. Prior investments by mining firms include roads and health centres.
Edmund Oduro Agyei, Director of Sustainability Management, spoke at the ceremony. He stressed the company’s commitment to education. He mentioned helping host communities achieve better results. Guahyia Oduro Panyin Birikorang, the Edubiasehene, praised the mine. He highlighted the significant investment in education. Christopher Appiah Mensah, the Headmaster, also thanked Obuasi Mine. He called the project timely and transformative.
The new hall will solve long-standing infrastructure problems. It will provide a better atmosphere for teaching and learning. The school will have more space for gatherings. Administrative efficiency will increase. Staff and student welfare will improve too. The initiative will boost the school’s capacity for exams and events. It supports academic excellence and student growth.
