The Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, has launched a GHS 30 million sports complex project in Sogakope. This initiative involves a ground-breaking ceremony for the multi-phased facility. The project will create a 6,000-seater stadium with various sports and commercial amenities.

This sports complex is a collaborative effort involving the South Tongu District Assembly (STDA) and the Maxwell Lukutor Foundation (MLF). Oxygen Capital Group Limited, experts in sports stadium construction, will execute the project. The initial phase includes fencing the 9.6-acre land and installing an Astroturf football field. This development is expected to address a significant lack of modern sports infrastructure in the Volta Region.

The project fits into a broader national push for improved sports facilities. Ghana's government has invested in similar projects, such as the numerous Astroturf fields constructed across various districts. This brings essential sports infrastructure closer to local communities. Such projects are vital for youth development and regional economic growth, aligning with national goals to foster talent and create local opportunities. They also complement existing facilities and can attract sports tourism.

Maxwell Kwame Lukutor stated that the project fulfills his long-standing dream to provide facilities for youth development. He commented that it would also serve as a hub for social activities, including concerts and funerals. The District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Victoria Dzeklo, called the initiative a great benefit for sports development. She pledged the Assembly’s full support for its implementation. The Volta Regional Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Daniel Agbogah, also welcomed the project. He highlighted the critical need for such infrastructure in the region.

The successful completion of this project could significantly enhance Sogakope's economic landscape. It promises to create jobs, attract local businesses, and boost tourism in the area. Investors and development partners will closely watch its progress, particularly those interested in 'Build, Operate, and Transfer' (BOT) arrangements. The project's phased approach allows for continuous monitoring of its financial viability and community impact. The local community's involvement, as seen in small donations, signals strong public backing. This bodes well for its long-term success and sustainability. Its impact could extend beyond sports, driving overall regional growth.
