Ketu North Member of Parliament Eric Edem Agbana has funded a Continuous Professional Development (CPD) workshop for more than 1,200 teachers and education staff in his constituency. The program officially began on May 18, 2026. It aims to enhance teaching and leadership skills across basic schools, senior high schools, and the Municipal Education Directorate.

This initiative directly addresses the National Teaching Council's 2025 guidelines. These rules require all teachers to earn 20 CPD points annually. These points must include specialised training components. Bismark Tay Leadership Solutions (BTLS), an accredited training provider, is delivering the workshop. The training focuses on practical classroom and leadership development. Modules cover positive discipline and learner assessment for basic school teachers. Senior high school teachers will train on using artificial intelligence, or AI, to improve teaching. Administrative staff will learn about educational leadership and people management.

The workshop represents a commitment to education development. "Teachers are the foundation of quality education and the transformation of our communities," stated Mr. Agbana. He added, "This investment is about securing the future of our children." The MP believes empowering educators builds a stronger constituency. He urged participants to take the program seriously. This focus on teacher development is a crucial element in Ghana's broader strategy for improving educational outcomes. Such investment can help close learning gaps and prepare students for a competitive job market. The sustained professional growth of teachers is vital for national progress.

Mr. Agbana's sponsorship highlights the critical role of local government in supporting national educational policies. It also shows how elected officials can directly impact public service quality. The initiative demonstrates a proactive approach to teacher development. This is especially relevant given current discussions around the future of education and the need for skilled educators in Ghana. The allocation of resources for such training underscores its perceived importance by local leadership in Ketu North.

The workshop's schedule spans several weeks. Basic school teacher training runs from May 18–22, 2026, and again from June 1, 2026. Senior high school teachers participate from June 2–5, 2026. Administrative staff receive their training on June 10, 2026. Participants will gain valuable skills. These skills are intended to improve learning outcomes and strengthen the educational system in Ketu North. The success of this program could serve as a model for other constituencies. It may also influence future policy on teacher training and development funding.
