A new GHC6.5 million technical training centre is being built in Ghana's Bono Region. This facility aims to improve skills and create more job opportunities. The ultra-modern Climate Resilient Centre is located at the Nsoatre Technical and Vocational Institute. Construction began after the Social Investment Fund handed over the site to the contractor.

TRACEF Construction and Engineering Limited is in charge of building the centre. They have 12 months to complete the project. The centre will focus on wood technology, fashion design, and digital skills. It will have modern equipment. This will give students practical training aligned with job market needs. The goal is to promote sustainable livelihoods for young people.

This project is part of a larger effort. It falls under the Post COVID-19 Skills Development and Productivity Enhancement Project. This project is financed by a grant of US$28.5 million from the African Development Bank (AfDB). The government signed an agreement with the AfDB in June 2022. This agreement covers a five-year period until 2027. The project aims to help Ghana recover from COVID-19. It also wants to restore livelihoods and boost employment.

Gabriel Gyamfi, the Bono Regional Director of TVET, spoke about the importance of technical education. He dismissed the idea that TVET is only for students who struggle academically. Mr. Gyamfi stated that TVET is key to fighting unemployment. It also helps the nation's industrial growth. He encouraged families to support their children in choosing TVET.

The government is also taking steps to improve TVET staffing. Financial clearance has been given for more TVET tutors. This year, many new teachers will be hired. Mr. MacDonald Acquah, a Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, represented the Social Investment Fund at the site handover. He stressed the need for the contractor to follow designs, timelines, and quality standards. Environmental and safety rules are also important.

Similar projects are happening in other regions. These include the Otaakrom Technical Institute in the Ashanti Region, Abetifi Technical Institute in the Eastern Region, and St. John’s Vocational/Technical School in the Upper West Region. The AfDB pays close attention to environmental and social issues in these projects. These include climate change, social inclusion, and gender equality.

The Principal of Nsoatre Technical and Vocational Institute, Mr. Alexander Sabi, also requested support. He asked for improved facilities like workshops and decent washrooms. The institute currently has 1,169 students. Mr. Sabi highlighted the need for a fence around the institute for better security.
