The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) achieved a total turnover of GHS 3.88 million on Thursday, June 4, 2026. This figure resulted from 868,671 shares traded during the 7,225th trading session.
MTN Ghana dominated trading activity with 338,412 shares changing hands. The telecommunications giant recorded GHS 2.19 million in value, making it the top performer by value for the session. However, its share price slightly decreased by GHS 0.01, closing at GHS 6.48 from an earlier GHS 6.49.
This latest trading session showed a sharp decline in market turnover compared to the previous period. The preceding session had generated over GHS 22 million, largely driven by significant activity in GCB Bank. The June 4 session thus indicates a more subdued market, with trading concentrated in fewer companies.
Atlantic Lithium Ltd recorded gains, rising by GHS 0.26 to close at GHS 8.46. The company traded 12,138 shares, valued at GHS 102,594.57. Ecobank Transnational Incorporated also saw its shares increase by GHS 0.08, closing at GHS 1.57. This was after 16,351 shares were traded, totaling GHS 25,295.46 in value.
Conversely, Ecobank Ghana PLC experienced the day's largest decline, losing GHS 3.01. Its shares closed at GHS 44.99, down from GHS 48.00. The bank traded 5,623 shares, generating GHS 253,550.30. ZEN Petroleum Holdings also saw a steep fall, decreasing by GHS 1.21 to close at GHS 10.96. The company traded 35,501 shares, contributing GHS 389,090.96 to the turnover.
Other companies that recorded declines included Ghana Oil Company (GOIL), which fell by GHS 0.42 to GHS 7.50. Guinness Ghana Breweries also decreased by GHS 0.25 to GHS 14.50. SIC Insurance Company lost GHS 0.05, closing at GHS 4.83, while CAL Bank slipped by GHS 0.01 to end at GHS 0.79.
Outside of MTN Ghana, CAL Bank traded the highest volume of shares for the session, with 420,762 shares valued at GHS 332,658.64. GCB Bank recorded 8,528 shares, worth GHS 307,008.00. Benso Palm Plantation traded 741 shares, valued at GHS 59,280.00.
The NewGold exchange-traded fund, which tracks gold prices, recorded two units traded. These units were valued at GHS 1,003.84, with no change in price. Activity on the Ghana Alternative Market (GAX), designed for small and medium-sized enterprises, remained thin. Intravenous Infusions PLC traded 2,865 shares for GHS 286.50, and Hords PLC traded 500 shares worth GHS 55.00. Meridian Marshalls Holding Company recorded 44 shares, valued at GHS 4.84.
The overall market sentiment for the June 4 session was influenced by selective trading. MTN Ghana's strong performance in turnover contrasted with price losses in Ecobank Ghana, ZEN Petroleum, and GOIL. This trading pattern suggests continued investor interest in telecommunications, banking, and energy sectors. However, it also highlights that market liquidity remains concentrated and uneven across the broader market. Investors will closely watch future trading sessions for signs of broader market participation and increased liquidity.
