The women’s fellowship of the Global Evangelical Church has donated assorted items valued at GHS 6,000 to female inmates at the Kumasi Central Prisons. This act of generosity took place over the weekend, just before Mother’s Day. The donation aims to support the inmates’ welfare and remind them they are not forgotten. Items included toiletries, food, drinks, bottled water, and funds for a gas cooker.

This donation is part of the church's ongoing prison ministry. Presbyter Christi Bobobi stated the church’s motivation was to help women in difficult circumstances. She assured inmates of continued support. "We have to share whatever we have as women," Mrs. Bobobi explained. She also urged other individuals and institutions to donate to prisoners.

Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Vida Elizabeth Owusu thanked the church. She highlighted challenges with the prison’s feeding grant. The government recently increased the daily grant to GHS 5 per inmate. However, this amount is still insufficient due to rising food prices. "The feeding fee was initially GHS 1.80, and now the government has increased it to GHS 5, but you know GHS 5 cannot do much these days," ASP Owusu said.

Donations from the public are crucial. They supplement the inmates’ food and improve their living conditions. ASP Owusu appealed for more support. This includes food items, medical supplies, and materials for vocational training. Such resources aid in the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society. The church's initiative reflects a broader trend of faith-based organizations supporting correctional facilities.

These efforts often involve welfare interventions and rehabilitation programs. They aim to promote social inclusion for inmates across Ghana. The Global Evangelical Church's donation is a positive step. It addresses the immediate needs of the female inmates. It also contributes to their long-term prospects after release. The church plans to make such visits more regular.
