The Member of Parliament for Effia, Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, has accused the government of severe underfunding of essential ministries and state agencies. He asserts that many public institutions are effectively collapsing due to the prolonged delays in releasing funds. The lawmaker stated that these financial constraints are hindering their ability to operate effectively.

Mr. Boamah-Nyarko highlighted that despite government promises of processing budgetary allocations and commitment authorisations, these funds are not reaching the ministries. He expressed strong concerns about the administration’s handling of the economy. The Effia MP argued that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration appears out of touch with the everyday struggles of Ghanaians. He claimed that the country feels dormant because nothing is moving forward financially.

This situation highlights ongoing concerns about public finance management in Ghana. Previous reports have indicated challenges in the timely disbursement of funds to government entities. For instance, the Ministry of Finance is responsible for authorising the release of funds. However, the current delays suggest a bottleneck in this critical process. This could impact the delivery of public services and government projects across the nation. The claim comes at a time when economic recovery is a key focus for the government.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Boamah-Nyarko questioned government pronouncements on economic improvement. He stated, “The ministers are struggling. There are no allotments or release of funds for the ministries. All the commitment authorisation is just talk.” He added that even agencies that generate their own funds face difficulties. Obtaining approval for using these internally generated funds from the Finance Ministry takes an excessively long time.

The direct implication of these funding delays is the potential for widespread operational failure within government ministries. This could lead to a decline in public service delivery, affecting citizens nationwide. Mr. Boamah-Nyarko urged the government to take immediate action to resolve these funding issues. He believes this is crucial for restoring confidence in the government's economic management. The public will be watching for any tangible improvements in fund disbursement. These delays could also signal broader fiscal pressures within the government's budget for 2026.
