Rotary Club Accra-Odadee AOGA Marks Second Anniversary with Vital Healthcare Support
The Rotary Club of Accra-Odadee AOGA has marked its second anniversary with a significant contribution to maternal and newborn healthcare. The club provided essential support to two key health facilities: the Shai-Osudoku District Hospital in Dodowa and Achimota Hospital. This initiative aimed to assist mothers, newborns, and address financial barriers faced by patients.
The club's efforts included donating wheelchairs, which are vital for patient mobility within hospitals. They also distributed newborn care packages filled with essential items for new mothers. A crucial part of the project involved settling the medical bills for mothers who could not afford their healthcare costs after delivery. Some patients were reportedly delayed in leaving the hospital due to these unpaid bills.
This charitable work by the Rotary Club of Accra-Odadee AOGA aligns with Rotary International's focus on maternal and child health. The timing coincided with Mother's Day celebrations. President Mother Teresa Brew highlighted the event's purpose was to honour mothers' sacrifices. She also emphasized the role of service organizations in supporting government efforts to improve healthcare, especially for those in need.
Both the Shai-Osudoku District Hospital and Achimota Hospital officials expressed their gratitude. They described the donations as timely and impactful for both patients and the facilities themselves. Many mothers who benefited shared emotional thanks, calling the support a major relief during a challenging period.
The club also extended its reach beyond Accra and Dodowa. They supported a single mother in Worawora, Oti Region. This beneficiary, who has been unable to walk since childhood, received a donated wheelchair. Despite her disability, she works as a groundnut farmer to support herself and her son. This act demonstrated the club's commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals with dignity and compassion.
The Rotary Club of Accra-Odadee AOGA, whose members are largely alumni of Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School and Aburi Girls' Senior High School, operates under Rotary's motto: “Service Above Self.” Their projects cover health, education, youth empowerment, and environmental sustainability. This anniversary initiative reflects the club's growing impact since its founding two years ago. It underscores their dedication to improving lives in Ghanaian communities.
