400 Police Officers Deployed for Yendi Enskinment

Security forces ensure peace and order for the enskinment of Kpampayaa Naa Yakubu in Yendi, drawing dignitaries and large crowds.

Four hundred police officers have been deployed to Yendi to provide comprehensive security for the enskinment of Kpampayaa Naa Yakubu. This significant deployment aims to ensure peace and order before, during, and after the ceremony. The event, scheduled for July 31, 2026, is expected to attract numerous chiefs, government officials, and hundreds of residents to the Gbewaa Palace. The deployment is a proactive measure to manage the large gathering and high-profile attendees. Deputy Northern Regional Crime Officer, ASP Richard Akumey, confirmed the operation. Police personnel will be stationed at all entry points to the palace and along routes used by visiting dignitaries. This security operation reflects the importance of traditional ceremonies in Ghana and the need for stability in the Northern Region. Past events in the region have sometimes been associated with security concerns, making this preventative measure crucial. The police are working to maintain public confidence and ensure a smooth event. ASP Akumey stated that police officers have received briefings on protocol, escort procedures, and access control. This preparation ensures the safety of guests from their arrival in Yendi until their departure. The collaboration with traditional authorities, youth groups, and community leaders has been ongoing to guarantee a successful program. Plain-clothes and uniformed personnel will work together to screen vehicles and manage movements within the ceremonial grounds. The deployment extends beyond the palace, with motorbike and vehicular patrol teams positioned on major roads. These roads include the Tamale-Yendi and Saboba-Yendi corridors, protecting travelers and deterring opportunistic crime. Checkpoints will be mounted, and rapid response teams will be on standby for any incidents on the highways. Officers trained in public order have been assigned to different sectors around the venue, using barricades to create entry and exit lanes. This structured approach aims to manage the expected large crowd effectively. Preparations are also underway at the Gbewaa Palace for the arrival of senior government officials. Dignitaries expected include President John Dramani Mahama, former Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin. The police presence is purely preventive, designed to guarantee safety for all attendees and residents. This extensive security arrangement underscores the government's commitment to peace and stability during significant cultural events. The successful execution of this security plan will reinforce trust in law enforcement and support regional development. The focus remains on ensuring a secure environment for all participants.
