The Adaklu Mountain in the Volta Region is now a restricted area. Volta Regional Minister James Gunu declared it a security zone. This decision came after a severe mudslide on Wednesday. The incident occurred during heavy rainfall at Adaklu Helekpe. The minister led a delegation to assess the damage.

The mudslide caused significant destruction of properties. Vehicles, farm machinery, and buildings were damaged. Personal belongings were also lost. The safety of anyone going to the mountain cannot be guaranteed. Minister Gunu ordered officials to cordon off the mountain. People are advised to stay away for their own safety. The Geological Survey Department will investigate the cause.

The Volta Region has recently faced several natural and environmental challenges. Protecting natural landscapes is crucial for economic stability. Deforestation and development can increase vulnerability to such events. The mudslide created a deep gorge on the mountain. Water is now gushing through this new channel. This highlights the raw power of nature.

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, also spoke. He mentioned that while natural disasters occur, destroying vegetation on the mountain could be a factor. Reverend Jacob Reddekopp, a missionary present, expressed gratitude that no lives were lost. A woman and her young son were injured. They are recovering at the Ho Teaching Hospital.

The declaration of Adaklu Mountain as a security zone means increased monitoring. Access will be restricted to authorized personnel. NADMO officials are ensuring the area is secured. This measure aims to prevent further harm to people. It also allows for proper assessment and potential mitigation efforts. The long-term impact on local communities and potential tourism is yet to be seen. Further studies will determine the cause and future management of the mountain. Residents are urged to cooperate with safety directives.
