The Ashanti Region Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Kofi Adu Domfeh, has issued a strong call to journalists. He urged them to place media ethics, truth, and the public interest above political influences. This is vital for maintaining the credibility of the journalism profession in Ghana. Mr. Domfeh made these remarks during the International Conference on Education and Humanities. The event took place at the University of Skill Training and Entrepreneurial Development.

He stressed that the future of journalism in Ghana hinges on professionalism and objectivity. Public trust is the bedrock of reliable news delivery. The conference panel discussed the theme “From Information to Influence: The Expanding Role of Media in Sustainable Development.” Mr. Domfeh cautioned journalists against letting political parties sway their reporting. He said this can lead to a loss of credibility.

Mr. Domfeh highlighted the growing influence of politics in media. He believes this poses a serious threat to journalistic integrity. It also erodes public confidence in the media. "When journalists allow themselves to be influenced by politicians or political parties, they risk losing both their credibility and reputation in society," he warned. This message resonated with attendees. It comes at a time of rising concerns about fake news and political divisions. Trust in some media outlets is declining.

Journalism must function as a public service. It should be driven by truth, accountability, and national development. This is the core message from Mr. Domfeh. He advised journalists to be responsible and objective. Their reporting should contribute to Ghana's growth. The conference also examined how media shapes public opinion. It influences governance and drives social change in modern Ghana.

Other speakers at the event included Dr. Thomas Agyarko Opoku and Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu. Renowned journalist Dr. Kwame Adinkrah moderated the session. Participants agreed on the need for ethical journalism. They also emphasized media literacy. Responsible communication is crucial in today's digital and politically charged environment. The three-day conference brought together academics, policymakers, and media professionals. They discussed communication's role in sustainable development. The University of Skill Training and Entrepreneurial Development aims to foster skills for economic transformation.
