Ejisu NPP Constituency Chairman Kofi Ampofo firmly stated that no plan exists among constituency executives to remove Member of Parliament Lawyer Kwabena Boateng. He dismissed widespread rumours of an agenda to frustrate the MP's potential second term bid.
Ampofo explained that recent disagreements arose from differing views on how to conduct polling station executive elections. While the MP preferred open voting and head counts, the executives insisted on secret balloting. This difference in opinion was misconstrued as a sign of opposition to the MP. The chairman stressed that there is no personal conflict with Boateng.
These internal debates occur as Ghana prepares for the 2028 general elections, a critical period for political parties to maintain unity. The NPP in Ejisu aims to consolidate its support base. Previous internal issues within political parties have sometimes led to challenges during parliamentary primaries, affecting party cohesion and electoral performance.
Ampofo referred to the situation as mere internal misunderstandings that have been exaggerated. He assured that the party leadership would permit any qualified member to contest the parliamentary primaries when they officially open in due course. He encouraged the MP to continue his hard work.
The party executive believes that fostering unity within the Ejisu NPP is paramount. He acknowledged that party unity has recently weakened. Measures are actively being taken to resolve all differences before the crucial 2028 elections. The Second Vice-Chairman also voiced concerns about party unity and urged the MP to work towards bridging divides.
He added that the parliamentary seat is not a guaranteed position. Competition is expected when primaries are due. Some party members have also called on the Ashanti Regional Executives of the NPP to step in. They hope regional intervention will help strengthen unity in the constituency for the upcoming 2028 elections.
