Crime rates have fallen in the Lawra Municipality. However, officials are concerned about a lack of support from residents for police prosecutions. This makes it difficult to secure convictions for criminal offenses in the region.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Madam Soyelle Cecilia Nuratu, reported this trend at a recent assembly meeting on May 13, 2026. She stated that the municipality remains peaceful. Only minor crimes like cattle rustling and domestic disputes have been recorded recently. This improved security is due to constant monitoring by the Municipal Security Council.

The Municipal Assembly also faces challenges with pollution of the Black Volta River. Authorities suspect illegal mining activities in Burkina Faso are the cause. Investigations in Ghana have found no such mining on the Ghanaian side of the river. The pollution seems to originate from a village near Danu in Burkina Faso. This environmental issue has been escalated to the Regional Security Council and the Ministry of Environment, Science and Innovation.

Despite these issues, security agencies successfully intercepted two vehicles. These vehicles carried unauthorized substances like dynamite, cyanide, and tramadol. These dangerous items were hidden with food supplies. The suspects involved are now in police custody awaiting prosecution. seized items are securely held by authorities.

The main concern remains the justice delivery system. Many residents who report crimes later refuse to help police investigations. They also fail to appear in court. This significantly hinders successful prosecutions. The District Police Commander has voiced frustration over disappearing complainants. This leads to the discontinuation of many cases.

Madam Nuratu urged Assembly Members to educate their communities. They should encourage residents to support law enforcement. She emphasized that offenders must face legal consequences. Justice requires full investigation and prosecution according to the law.
