The women’s wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ghana’s Suame Constituency has lodged a serious complaint. They accuse the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suame, Frank Owusu Ansah. The group claims MCE Owusu Ansah practices nepotism and neglects loyal party members. They want party leaders to act urgently on these issues.
These party members allege a pattern of favouritism. They state that opportunities, jobs, and contracts have gone to friends and family. Individuals outside the NDC have also reportedly benefited. Asmawu Bello, the Constituency Women Organiser, also known as Empress, spoke at a press conference. She stated that active party members, especially women, have been left out since MCE Owusu Ansah took office.
The NDC women’s wing feels their hard work is unappreciated. They believe MCE Owusu Ansah has treated them poorly. This includes constituency executives and the Women’s Wing members. Ms. Bello specifically mentioned denied scholarship slots for their children. She also claimed contracts for road and borehole projects were diverted. These projects were reportedly intended for party executives.
This situation breeds apathy within the NDC. Ms. Bello warned that inaction could harm the party. Their chances in the 2028 general elections might be reduced. Branch executives are reportedly skipping party meetings. They cite a lack of roles since the current government took power. The Women's Wing feels abandoned and unsupported. They urged regional and national executives to intervene quickly.
Other branch women organisers share these concerns. They attended the press conference. The current approach is demoralising grassroots members. These members contributed significantly to the party's past campaigns. The group expects party leadership to investigate. They want appointments and contracts to reflect member contributions.
Repeated attempts to get a comment from the Suame MCE were unsuccessful. Frank Owusu Ansah declined to speak on the allegations. The political stability and internal cohesion of the NDC in Suame are now under scrutiny. Such internal dissent can impact voter trust and mobilisation efforts. Allegations of favouritism can also signal potential mismanagement of public resources. This often occurs when contracts are awarded without fair competition.
The NDC faces a critical juncture in addressing these grievances. Failure to do so could lead to further disengagement of its core supporters. This is particularly concerning in a constituency where grassroots support is vital. The party's national leadership will likely face pressure to demonstrate accountability. They must show they value their dedicated members and ensure fair distribution of opportunities.
