The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Oti Region will elect new regional executives on August 15, 2026. A total of 219 accredited delegates are expected to cast their ballots in these crucial regional executive elections.
This electoral exercise will take place at the Catholic Diocese premises in Buem-Nsuta, located within the Jasikan Municipality. Delegates from all nine constituencies across the Oti Region will converge to select officers who will guide the party's affairs for the upcoming term. This internal election is a vital step in the NPP's broader strategy to reinforce its organizational framework and prepare for future political engagements, including the significant 2028 general elections.
The NPP's internal elections are a regular feature of Ghana's multi-party democracy, reflecting the ongoing efforts by major political parties to maintain strong grassroots structures. These regional polls are particularly important as they determine the local leadership that will mobilize support and execute party policies at the regional level. The outcome of these elections can influence the party's performance in future national polls, making them a closely watched event within Ghana's political landscape.
Mr. Jonathan Akpabeh, the incumbent Regional Secretary who is seeking re-election, confirmed that all necessary logistical and administrative preparations have been finalized. He stated these measures aim to guarantee a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process. The Oti Regional Secretariat of the party clarified that the 219 delegates comprise constituency executives, electoral area coordinators, members of the Council of Elders, patrons, and other recognized stakeholders, all in accordance with the party’s constitution.
The elections will see contests for various regional executive positions. These include Regional Chairman, First Vice Chairman, Second Vice Chairman, Regional Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Organiser, Women Organiser, Youth Organiser, Treasurer, and Nasara Coordinator. These roles are critical for the effective functioning and outreach of the party within the Oti Region, impacting its ability to connect with voters and implement its agenda.
Party officials emphasized that these elections are integral to the NPP’s internal democratic processes. They are designed to strengthen the party's organizational structures and strategically position the NPP ahead of future political activities. The party expressed strong confidence that the exercise will be conducted in an atmosphere of fairness, discipline, and mutual respect among all participants. They urged all contestants and their supporters to uphold the party’s core values throughout the electoral proceedings.
Incumbent Regional Chairman, Evans Yaw Dapaah, announced that security personnel will be deployed at the election venue and its surrounding areas. This deployment aims to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of delegates, party officials, observers, and invited guests before, during, and after the polls. Party executives reiterated that maintaining peace during the elections is paramount. A smooth and transparent process will further bolster confidence in the party's internal democratic credentials, which is crucial for its public image and internal cohesion.
