OMJ SoccerFest '26 Draw Attracts Major Support

    Fourteenth edition of grassroots football tournament launches with focus on youth empowerment and community development in Akuapem South.

    The press launch and official draw for OMJ SoccerFest '26 occurred on Sunday, May 24, 2026. The event took place at Arrow’s Lounge in Aburi. It attracted a large number of stakeholders. Traditional leaders and football administrators were present.

    This year’s tournament is dubbed Ahwerase 2026. It signals the start of activities for the youth football competition. The finals are scheduled for July. All 16 participating teams sent representatives to the launch. Coaches and team leaders attended the event. Traditional leaders from Akuapem South showed their support. They believe in the tournament's goals. These goals include youth empowerment and community development.

    Nana Amoako Ansah, the Ampomoahene, spoke for the Ahwerase Traditional Council. He assured attendees of peace and unity. He welcomed all teams to Ahwerase. He urged fair competition and good sportsmanship. Mr Osei Mensah Joseph is the founder of the OMJ Foundation. He thanked stakeholders for their commitment. He encouraged players to perform well. Discipline and character are important, he said.

    The draw ceremony divided the 16 teams into groups. Some pairings were described as intense. These match-ups are expected to excite football fans. The organizers also revealed attractive prizes. These include cash prizes and trophies. Medals, jerseys, and honorary plaques are also part of the rewards. These prizes aim to boost competitiveness.

    Several side activities will accompany the tournament. These include a street carnival and a business fair. An inter-community cooking competition is also planned. A free health screening exercise will offer vital services. These activities promote unity and wellbeing.
