More than 50,000 people in Ghana's Eastern and Ahafo regions now benefit from improved access to safe and reliable water. Communities previously reliant on unsafe and distant water sources now have a better supply.
Some households have received direct connections to clean water systems. This project was made possible through a partnership between World Vision Ghana and Polytank Ghana Limited. The intervention reduces the burden of long-distance water collection and lowers cases of water-related illnesses.
Parents and teachers report better school attendance and improved concentration among children. Polytank Ghana Limited supplied 26 high-capacity polytanks as part of its corporate social responsibility. These tanks supported water system construction, rehabilitation, and expansion.
The initiative is part of the Ahafo Region Integrated WASH Program. This program aims to increase clean water access in underserved areas. It targets communities, schools, and health facilities. In total, 26 communities in Asutifi North and Asunafo North districts received improved water services.
The Eastern Region saw six communities in Fanteakwa benefit from emergency water interventions. This reached over 5,000 residents who lacked dependable water sources previously. Thirty basic schools now have reliable water systems for over 12,000 pupils.
At Akorsakrom Basic School, a hand pump was upgraded to a solar-powered system. This includes a standpipe, ensuring students have clean water daily. Eight clinics and health centres also received reliable water supply improvements.
These upgrades strengthen hygiene practices and infection prevention. They also support maternal and child health services. World Vision Ghana highlights the importance of collaboration. Such partnerships between development groups and the private sector are vital. Access to clean water remains crucial for health and development.
