Wa East Member of Parliament, Dr. Godred Seidu Jassaw, has supplied over 2,000 desks to 27 schools in the district. This action directly tackles a critical lack of furniture. Many classrooms previously forced pupils to learn from bare floors. Their uniforms suffered significant wear and tear from contact with concrete.

The provision of these desks is a major step for Wa East, one of Ghana's poorest districts. Children previously sat cross-legged on the ground. They balanced books on their laps or wrote directly on the floor. This posture made concentration difficult and increased physical discomfort. Teachers spent valuable time managing student discomfort instead of teaching core subjects. The wear on clothing also represented an additional financial burden for families.

This furniture shortage is a long-standing issue in Wa East, located in the Upper West Region. Improved school infrastructure is crucial for educational progress. Such challenges are common in many rural Ghanaian districts. Previous efforts to address the problem were insufficient for the scale of need. The district still faces significant challenges with its school structures.

Dr. Jassaw utilized funds from the District Assembly Common Fund for the initial procurement. He allocated a portion of this fund to buy 1,000 study desks. This was further supplemented by support from development partners. Plan Ghana contributed over 950 additional mono and dual desks. Wa East Director of Education, Yahaya Mumuni Abdul Rahman Seinu, highlighted the severity of the situation. The Wa East District Chief Executive, Adamu Shayibu, praised the MP's initiative.

The donation is expected to significantly enhance the learning environment. Pupils can now sit upright and focus on their lessons. This change from learning on the ground to having a dedicated space is transformative. It represents a critical step towards better educational outcomes for the district's children. The community has been urged to maintain the new furniture.
