The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged Ghana’s youth to shun corruption and harmful practices. He spoke at the Ghana Business Leaders Conclave. The event was hosted by the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA). Otumfuo stressed the need for ethical choices. He delivered a keynote address on May 16, 2026. The nation is nearing its 70th independence anniversary.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II challenged students and young professionals. He called for success built on ethics. Responsibility and service must guide their actions. “To the students gathered here, I say that you are not merely preparing for employment, you are preparing for responsibility,” he stated. Future leaders need strong moral character, he emphasized. Ghana will judge them by their character, not just degrees.

The Asantehene warned against admiring wealth obtained unethically. He advised, “Do not admire wealth without asking how it was made.” Leaders must also explain how their power is used. Success should not come at the expense of others. Otumfuo encouraged a redefinition of greatness. Material possessions are not the sole measure. Honesty, service, and discipline are also vital. Young people must have the courage to do right. This is especially true when wrongdoing seems profitable.

Generations to come must refuse corruption’s normalization. They must also reject environmental degradation. Politics need not always divide the nation. Otumfuo encouraged embracing modernity. This should be balanced with strong cultural values. Ambition must be tempered with ethics. Confidence should be paired with humility. Success requires responsibility.

Ghana’s next chapter needs builders, not just talkers. This sentiment comes after almost seven decades of independence. Otumfuo sees ethical builders as Ghana’s future. Innovators driven by integrity are key. His message resonated with the attendees. Leaders without ethics cannot build lasting institutions. Business without integrity poses dangers. Arrogant leadership is detrimental.

The Asantehene’s address focused on crucial societal values. These principles are vital for Ghana’s economic and social progress. Ethical leadership fosters trust. It attracts investment. Responsible business practices ensure sustainability. The youth are the custodians of this future. Their choices today shape Ghana tomorrow.
