Rev. Stephen Wengam, head of Assemblies of God, Ghana, has called on Christians to strongly defend their core beliefs. He urged believers to reject modern ideas and practices that contradict biblical teachings. Rev. Wengam spoke at the national conference for ministers’ wives in Kumasi.
He stated that the church today faces many strange influences. Rev. Wengam challenged Christians to protect the fundamental principles of the Christian faith. He spoke to about 3,000 pastors’ wives. The theme of the conference was “The Faith of Our Fathers In Action”.
This message fits into a larger discussion about maintaining religious identity in Ghana. Many religious groups are adapting to modern society. They balance tradition with new ways of life. Rev. Wengam’s call emphasizes preserving theological soundness. This is a recurring theme within religious leadership discussions nationwide.
Rev. Wengam urged the women to lead bravely. They should use their influence to safeguard the church’s spiritual teachings. He compared the situation to biblical characters Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These individuals refused to obey a king’s command to worship an idol. He said, “This uncommon faith should inspire the present generation of Christians not to compromise their faith”.
The conference had important guests. The Minister of Gender, Women and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, was there. She agreed with the need to protect the faith. Lady Mrs Monica Wengam, National President of the Ministers’ Wives Association, also spoke. She encouraged the wives to be patient like Sarah in the Bible.
Beyond spiritual talks, the conference celebrated achievements. Lady Mrs Wengam announced a new church building. It is in Afram Plains and cost nearly GHS 400,000. The association plans to fund another rural church next. They also plan a new temple for a growing congregation.
The event included workshops for ministers' wives. These sessions covered mental health, nutrition, and family stability. They also covered social etiquette and leadership presence. These workshops aim for the holistic development of the ministers' wives.
