Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Kwabena Boateng, alleges he is facing political retaliation. His support for Kennedy Agyapong during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary has created disaffection, he claims. Mr. Boateng stated on Owia TV in Kumasi that some party members are actively trying to remove him from his position. These efforts include attempts to unfairly influence the upcoming polling station elections.

Mr. Boateng feels he is starting from a difficult position. He notes that the recent election results did not favor him. He believes supporting the minority within a party can help maintain unity. The party's constitution outlines how polling station executives form the basis for parliamentary primary elections. However, Mr. Boateng insists that current guidelines are being ignored.

He specifically points to Section Five of the Guidelines and Timelines for the 2026 polling station elections. This section states that only registered party members can vote. Mr. Boateng alleges that the NPP's representative, Kwame Owusu Bampoe, claimed regional executives had directed otherwise. The representative supposedly said the Electoral Commission's (EC) polling station register would be used. This register includes individuals who do not vote for the NPP, according to Mr. Boateng.

The MP also criticized the decision to use a secret ballot for these elections. He believes this authority rests with constituency executives. In national elections, secret ballots are carefully managed with serial numbers for security. Mr. Boateng described the current method as using simple sheets of paper without proper security measures.

However, some NPP sources in Ejisu disagree. They maintain that no rules have been broken. They explain the Election Committee agreed to use secret ballots to preserve party unity. These sources also stated that the party used its membership album. They allowed participation even for individuals whose names were not on the album.

Eight constituency executives have taken legal action. They filed an injunction against the upcoming elections. Their complaint lists four alleged breaches of party rules. They seek a court order to ensure the elections follow the party's regulations. Mr. Boateng has publicly asked for forgiveness. He expressed this to party leadership, especially if his actions caused any unintentional issues. He feels unfairly treated in the current election process.

He urged party leaders to let the election process proceed according to the law. Mr. Boateng is ready to accept defeat if the process is fair. The NPP's internal politics often influence local governance and party stability. Disagreements over election procedures can lead to significant internal divisions, potentially impacting voter engagement and party strength in future general elections.
