The Ghana Police Service has arrested 50 individuals during a significant anti-narcotics operation. This action took place within the Madina Market area in the Greater Accra Region. The raid targeted suspected drug-related activities.
Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe announced the operation on Friday, May 8, 2026. The Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team led the effort. This was based on gathered intelligence about illicit drug dealing. The operation occurred on May 7, 2026. Authorities aimed to apprehend those involved in supplying and distributing narcotic substances. A total of 50 suspects were detained.
The arrested individuals consist of 46 men and four women. Initial checks revealed varied nationalities among the suspects. Twenty-five are Ghanaian citizens. Others include 13 Nigerians, nine Nigeriens, one Malian, one Togolese, and one Burkinabe national. Police investigators believe some arrestees are central figures in the alleged criminal network.
Two individuals were specifically identified as alleged kingpins. Abigail Okoh, 26, and Mohammed Zaya, a Nigerien national, hold this distinction. Further investigations implicated two Nigerien shop owners. Yussif Abubakar, 25, and Amadou Alfani, 43, are accused of selling and distributing narcotics from their businesses.
During the raid, law enforcement seized substantial amounts of suspected narcotics. They also recovered related paraphernalia. Items confiscated include 230 boxes of Tramadol, valued at GHS 130,000. Additionally, 49 boxes of other suspected drugs worth GHS 26,000 were found. Ten parcels of Indian hemp, estimated at GHS 15,000, were also secured. Other seized items include 13 more boxes of narcotic substances. Mobile phones, scissors, and knives believed to be linked to the illegal trade were also collected. The total street value of all seized exhibits is around GHS 200,000.
COP Cudjoe stated that investigations are actively continuing. These efforts aim to understand the full extent of the criminal operation. All 50 suspects and the confiscated exhibits are at the National Operations Directorate Headquarters. Further investigations and necessary actions will proceed there.
