A Ghanaian mother has made serious allegations against the father of her 15-year-old daughter. She claims the man, who is a Police Inspector, sexually abused their child. This abuse allegedly led to the daughter becoming pregnant and later testing positive for HIV. The mother shared her story with Adom FM, detailing a pattern of alleged abuse that began when her daughter was around 10 years old. The daughter is currently a candidate for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The mother stated that the abuse occurred while the girl lived with her father, a Police Inspector stationed in Garu, Upper East Region. She alleges that the child was forced to undergo an abortion at home at the father's arrangement. The mother also claims the Inspector instructed his daughter to lie about the abuse. He allegedly identified a teacher as the perpetrator if anyone inquired. This led to the teacher's arrest. The daughter's eventual testimony secured the teacher's release from the wrongful accusation.
The mother said the truth began to surface when the girl saw a doctor. The doctor encouraged her to speak openly about what happened. The girl, initially scared to talk, eventually disclosed her father was responsible for the abuse. The doctor reported the incident to the police for investigation. The Inspector was invited for questioning in Bawku. The child was taken away from him during the initial investigation period. However, she was later returned to his care.
The situation escalated when the Inspector fell ill and travelled to Kumasi for treatment. The mother then took custody of her daughter. A medical referral to Koforidua for further examination followed. Medical tests confirmed the child's HIV positive status. The mother believes the infection may have come from the father. She mentioned the father took medication for leg pain, which he kept wrapped in black polythene. The mother submitted the medical report to the Agona Jamasi Police Station. She expressed frustration over the slow progress of the case, reporting little action for five months. She was reportedly told to simply wait.
The psychological impact on the child has been significant. Due to the trauma, the mother relocated her daughter to Koforidua for schooling. However, the girl continues to struggle with the experience. A teacher spoke with the child, who then recounted the events again. This led to the matter being reported to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Koforidua. The case was subsequently referred to the national headquarters for further action. Despite these steps, the mother fears the case might be ignored or go unresolved. The lack of clear progress in such a sensitive case involving a child and a law enforcement officer raises questions about accountability within the justice system. The delayed progress could have profound implications for the victim's ongoing health and psychological recovery, as well as reinforce a sense of impunity.
