Nana Akomea, a prominent member of the campaign team supporting Mahamudu Bawumia, believes the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should actively seek to reconcile with former party heavyweight Alan Kyerematen. Akomea stated this on Tuesday during a discussion on PM Express. He emphasized that this reconciliation is a vital step in rebuilding and broadening the NPP’s support ahead of the next general elections. Akomea suggested that if Dr. Bawumia were to seek his counsel, he would strongly endorse efforts to mend ties with Mr. Kyerematen. He noted that this strategic move could significantly strengthen the party's electoral prospects.

Speaking on the show, Akomea explained the rationale behind his suggestion. He highlighted that the NPP is actively seeking to win over supporters from opposing parties, such as the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and also attract neutral voters. Akomea argued that it makes more political sense for the NPP to first reconnect with individuals who already have deep roots and familiarity within the party. He described these former members who left as belonging to the party’s “natural constituencies.” Their return, he believes, would bolster the party's strength and appeal more effectively than targeting external groups who have no inherent loyalty to the NPP.

Akomea further elaborated on the reasons for past divisions within the party. He characterized the departures of figures like Alan Kyerematen as stemming from “hurt feelings or misunderstanding.” He expressed confidence that the passage of time can help to soften these past grievances. Akomea feels that bringing such individuals back into the fold is a feasible goal because they are already familiar with the party's structures and ethos. He explicitly affirmed that the time is now right for such a reconciliation, particularly concerning Alan Kyerematen, as well as other former members. Akomea sees this as a strategic opportunity that could benefit the entire party.

When questioned directly about Dr. Bawumia’s potential openness to such a political manoeuvre, Akomea admitted that the matter had not been personally discussed with him. However, he affirmed that if Dr. Bawumia were to consult him as part of his inner circle, he would unequivocally support and advise in favour of approaching Alan Kyerematen. Akomea reiterated his argument that if the NPP is willing to engage with members of the NDC, who have no natural affinity for their party, then reaching out to former loyalists should be a much simpler and more logical undertaking. He believes that a successful reintegration of figures like Kyerematen would be a substantial asset for the NPP's future electoral campaigns. The former STC boss stressed that any renewed engagement with Alan Kyerematen would demonstrably benefit the party’s broader objectives and electoral strategy.
