The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has trained 40 officers for Ghana’s new electronic visa (e-visa) system. This digital platform will permit foreign nationals to apply for and obtain their visas online. The nationwide rollout is scheduled for May 25, 2026.

The training session in Accra prepared personnel from all immigration checkpoints. The e-visa system is designed to make visa applications easier for travellers. It will also improve how efficiently passengers are processed at the borders. Furthermore, the system aims to strengthen national security by providing better traveller data.

This digital initiative is a key part of modernizing Ghana’s border control. An e-visa system can significantly impact tourism and foreign investment. Countries with streamlined visa processes often see more visitors. Improved efficiency can lower costs for businesses and individuals. Ghana's economic development depends on attracting foreign capital and promoting its tourism sector.

Mr. Faisal Disu, Acting Deputy Comptroller-General of Immigration, highlighted the system's importance. He stated that the e-visa platform is a “new way of working, anchored on transparency and accountability.” He also stressed that protecting traveller data is a vital duty for all officers. The platform will generate data useful for national security and economic planning.

The e-visa system is expected to improve Ghana's image internationally. A user-friendly online process can attract more tourists and business travellers. Mr. Disu noted that this system serves as the initial interaction point for foreign visitors. The GIS management is committed to ongoing training and system updates. They promise strict monitoring of data integrity and accountability measures.

Officers received instruction on the system’s workflow. They learned about monitoring procedures and document verification. Training also covered online payment systems. Senior GIS officials and partners attended the opening ceremony. These included Mr. Philip Peter Andoh, Acting Deputy Comptroller-General (Legal), and Mr. Francis Gavor, CEO of Rock Africa.
