North East Region Gets 200 Computers For One Million Coders Programme

    Digital skills initiative aims to equip youth for technology jobs

    The North East Region has received 200 computers. This is to support the government's One Million Coders Programme. This programme aims to boost digital skills across Ghana. The computers will help train young people. They will learn coding and technology skills. This is important for future jobs.

    Mr. Ndamba Yakubu Ridwan, the Regional Coordinator for GIFEC (Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications), presented the computers. He gave them to the North East Regional Minister. The Minister will distribute them. Beneficiary areas include East Mamprusi Municipality. Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri District is also included. Yunyoo-Nasuan District and Chereponi District will receive computers too. This presentation officially starts the programme in these districts. The computers are key tools for training. They support coding and digital literacy.

    The One Million Coders Programme is a national effort. It wants to give the youth important digital skills. This helps them find jobs. It also helps them create new things. Mr. Ridwan encouraged young people to join. He said they can apply online. He stressed the programme's importance. Youth should take it seriously, he added. Participants in East Mamprusi will get face-to-face help. Those in other districts will train online. Designated centres will host online learning.

    The programme will expand next. West Mamprusi Municipality and Mamprugu Moagduri Districts will be covered. Young people in those areas should wait. The North East Regional Minister praised GIFEC. He also thanked the government. He called it a big step. It helps close the digital gap. It creates chances for young people. He told the assemblies to use computers well. Effective use will train participants. It will build a strong digital future.

    The Minister also told District Chief Executives to help. They must work with programme coordinators. Security for the computers is essential. He said, "Let us take serious steps to safeguard the centres and the computers." He wants children to benefit from them. He confirmed the computers would be shared equally. The programme aims to empower thousands of Ghanaians. It will give them practical coding and ICT skills. This positions them for digital economy opportunities.
