The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man in connection with the murder of a 27-year-old car dealer. The dealer’s burnt body was found inside a car. This happened at Atomic Junction.
The suspect, Wisdom Tetteh, was arrested in the country of Togo. He was attempting to get rid of the victim’s mobile phone. The victim is Yaw Osei Ashitey Amma. His burnt body was discovered on April 7, 2026. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service made the arrest. Mr. Tetteh was handed over to Ghanaian police at the Aflao border. He is now at the CID headquarters assisting with investigations.
This crime has broader implications for business confidence. Car dealerships are a vital part of Ghana's economy. They connect buyers and sellers. Theft and violence deter legitimate business activities. The total value of the stolen car was GHS 172,000. This represents a significant financial loss. The incident highlights the risks faced by people in business. Investigations into similar crimes are ongoing across the country. Such events can impact consumer spending and investment. They can affect the overall economic outlook for Ghana.
Director-General of the CID, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, provided details about the case. She stated that Mr. Tetteh was arrested on April 30, 2026. This was through a collaboration with Interpol. Investigations suggest Mr. Tetteh lured Mr. Amma to his home on April 6, 2026. He pretended he wanted to sell a vehicle. Mr. Amma was then attacked. He suffered fatal head injuries. DCOP Donkor added that Mr. Amma’s identity was hard to confirm. This was due to severe burns on his body.
The suspect allegedly sold Mr. Amma’s Hyundai Elantra. He received a partial payment of GHS 18,000. Police believe Mr. Tetteh then moved the body. He put it in the vehicle at Atomic Junction. He removed the car’s number plate. Then he set both the car and the body on fire. This was to destroy evidence. The police are continuing their investigation. They have obtained DNA samples from Mr. Amma’s relatives for confirmation.
