Ghana will host the third Ghana Horticulture Expo from June 11 to 13, 2026, at the State House in Accra. The event aims to spark a national movement towards agricultural self-reliance. It also seeks to elevate the country’s standing in the global horticultural market through innovation.

The Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE) is spearheading the expo. They are working in strategic partnership with the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) and the Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM). This gathering comes as global supply chain disruptions increase and food security concerns force nations to re-evaluate agricultural strategies. This year's expo will focus on investment promotion, technological advancement, value addition, and export growth. It will provide an expansive platform for these key areas.

The event aligns with Ghana’s broader economic objective of reducing import dependence and boosting non-traditional exports. Horticulture, including fruits, vegetables, spices, and herbs, represents a significant growth area for Ghana's economy. The Ghana Export Promotion Authority's 2022 Non-Traditional Export Statistics reported GHS 4.2 billion from non-traditional exports. Boosting horticulture exports can significantly increase this figure, creating more foreign exchange income. Increased farming and processing activities also create jobs, especially for rural communities.

FAGE President Davies Narh Korboe stated that agriculture is crucial for national security. He also emphasized Ghana’s unique endowments, such as fertile land and a favourable climate. Korboe stressed that achieving agricultural sovereignty is a shared national responsibility. It requires strategic investment, robust partnerships, and a relentless focus on innovation. Mr. Korboe noted the expo specifically aims to inspire young entrepreneurs in agribusiness.

The expo is structured to facilitate tangible business outcomes. It will gather farmers, exporters, agribusiness leaders, investors, and policymakers. Attendees can participate in structured business-to-business (B2B) meetings. They will also find targeted market linkage sessions connecting local producers with international buyers. Concurrent policy discussions will identify and dismantle bottlenecks within the domestic agricultural value chain. This will allow for more efficient production and export processes. Increased export capacity and improved market access could mean significant boosts in foreign trade earnings. This would support the Ghana cedi and strengthen the national economy. Businesses should watch for new export opportunities and policy reforms emerging from the expo.
