Deloitte Ghana held an awards ceremony on April 29, 2026, to conclude its Earth Month celebrations. The event honoured staff for their dedicated care of office plants. These plants were distributed in April 2025 as part of the firm's sustainability drive. The ceremony celebrated a year-long commitment to nurturing these green companions within the workplace. Chief Sustainability Officer for Deloitte West Africa, Abena Biney, spoke at the event. She drew a connection between the plants and employees. Mrs. Biney compared both to new hires like "associates" and "national service personnel." She explained that consistent care leads to growth. This mirrors professional development opportunities within the firm. Some plants flourished significantly. Others continued to grow and evolve over the year. To ensure a fair evaluation, an independent florist assessed the plants. The florist scored each plant. The scoring focused on health, growth, and overall care given. Objectivity and credibility were key to this process. Two units stood out for their exemplary plant nurturing. The Assurance Unit won for their plant named "Blossom." The P&P Unit received an award for their plant, "Evergreen Bloom." The winning teams received a Dracaena plant. This plant is known for being resilient. It also requires low maintenance. Its calming qualities were highlighted. Both teams also received a beautifully crafted art painting. This award recognized their hard work and dedication. Mrs. Biney shared a principle as she closed the ceremony. She stated, "the reward for hard work is more work." She explained that giving another plant is a reward. It also represents a renewed responsibility. This responsibility is to continue showing care and consistency. She urged all employees to keep nurturing their office plants. This not only supports a greener workspace. It also serves as a reminder. The reminder is of life lessons. These lessons include growth, patience, and responsibility. The Earth Month initiative reinforced Deloitte Ghana's values. The firm is committed to sustainability. Employee engagement is also a priority. They aim to create meaningful experiences. These experiences connect personal growth with environmental stewardship. This event is part of a broader strategy. It aims to integrate sustainability into daily operations.
