The Accra High Court has set 4 November 2026 to deliver its ruling on a bail application by former NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, MyJoyOnline reports.

He is seeking bail pending an appeal against his conviction and 20-year prison sentence for illegal mining-related offences linked to a concession at Samreboi in the Western Region, according to MyJoyOnline.

The application was first listed for 19 August 2026 but was adjourned after Mr Boasiako and lead counsel Samuel Atta Akyea did not appear. It was later fixed for 15 October 2026, MyJoyOnline says.

The Attorney-General opposes bail on flight-risk grounds, MyJoyOnline reports. Kessben Online also said the hearing was adjourned to 4 November 2026 and that Mr Boasiako remains in custody.
